Documentation excerpt of site specific video and sound installation in the Mills College Museum tower
Single Channel Video, Plexiglas, Water
The two Plexiglas cubes have volumes to contain precise weights in water. One holds the difference between the artist’s weight one year ago and her weight today. The other can hold the difference between her current weight and her perceived ideal weight. Through a performative video with the cubes, the artist carries out actions that border on ritual, obsession, cleansing, and consumption. The video is projected through the cubes, filling the tower's walls with images of varying refraction. The sound, recorded as foley in the tower itself, heightens the striking sonic qualities of the space and creates a subtle tension and disconnect between what the viewer sees and hears.
